Registration Instructions for Students in Year ONE.
Students must register for 9 credits per semester (3 courses) to be considered full-time students.
Students admitted to the Theology Ph.D. program with a master's degree are required to complete a minimum of 36 credits and maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Course selection should be done in consultation with the student's assigned advisor.
Language for Reading courses can be added as 0-credit add-ons to the 9 credits.
Registration Instructions for Students in Year TWO.
Students must register for 9 credits per semester (3 courses) to be considered full-time students.
During Spring semester of year TWO, students must register for the 0-credit THEO 5015 (Teaching Theology).

THEO 0912 Requirement Prep. Register for THEO 0912 during the semesters you are preparing for Comprehensive Exams AND the semester in which you plan to take your Comprehensive Exams. Once you have completed the oral component of your exams, the department will forward your paperwork to the GSAS office, and the deans will change the THEO 0912 registration to THEO 0930 to show completion of the exam requirement.
GSAS requires doctoral students to take and pass Comprehensive Exams within TWO semesters following the completion of coursework.
Students must take and pass their exams within FOUR semesters of completed coursework to avoid dismissal from the program.
**All students out of coursework MUST fill out the Matriculated Students Status Form to maintain funding (see below).
THEO 0950 Proposal Development. After you have completed your exams, you will register for THEO 0950. You will register for THEO 0950 each semester, including the semester of your proposal colloquy. Once you have received approval for your proposal and the department submits the paperwork to the GSAS office, the deans will sign the Dissertation Title Approval Form and change your status to THEO 0960 Proposal Acceptance.
After passing the exams, students have up to TWO semesters to develop a proposal and have it approved by the department.
Students may be dismissed from the program if the proposal is not approved after FOUR semesters of non-completion of the proposal after the exams have been taken.

THEO 0970 Dissertation Mentoring. During the first semester AFTER Proposal Acceptance, students are automatically registered for Dissertation Mentoring.
THEO 9999 Dissertation Direction. After ONE semester of Dissertation Mentoring, students should sign up for THEO 9999 Dissertation Direction. You must register for THEO 9999 even during the semester you are planning to defend or defending.
THEO 0910 Maintenance of Matriculation. You must register for THEO 0910 to retain continuous enrollment at GSAS while away from the University, and not using University resources. Time spent away from the University counts toward the time limit for the completion of degree.
