đź‘‹Welcome to Psycho-educational Evaluation of Children with Learning Problems (EDS 741). Over the next 14 weeks we will embark on a guided learning experience in which we explore the theoretical bases of testing and techniques underlying psycho-educational evaluation of children with learning and behavior problems. Emphasis will be placed on examining issues of standardized, informal, observational, computer-based, curriculum, and portfolio assessment. Special attention will also be placed on the impact of culture, language, and gender on testing. In a practicum setting, students will administer tests and score, interpret, and share results with parents, teachers, and other professionals. Additionally, issues of advocacy and self-advocacy will be addressed. Â

Below you will find our course Nearpod Lesson Library, which is comprised of 10 pre-made lessons, videos, and activities - one for each asynchronous session throughout the course. As opposed to meeting as a whole group via Zoom, these weekly Nearpod lessons allow you to join and engage in an interactive learning experience (i.e., lectures, readings, and lesson activities) at different times and can complete the lesson activities at your own pace on your own time.Â
Please find below the instructions for accessing, completing, and submitting weekly lesson activities - along with the 5-letter CODE to join each day's Nearpod lesson. All session materials (including join code) will be hyperlinked below at the start of each class session.

Start by visualizing a jar. Imagine placing it in a safe place in your home. When you feel stressed or anxious visualize putting these thoughts and feelings into the jar so you can worry about them later. What thoughts & feelings do you want to put in the jar right now?Â
Want to add the Worry Jar Technique to your SEL toolbox? Start here. You will work individually to review one psychological instrument. Your review will include a discussion of the following:Â
psychometric properties;Â
intended and actual uses;Â
generalizability to the educational environment; andÂ
special concerns and alerts related to their use.Â
You will be provided with a format for this assignment. The Burros Mental Measurements Yearbook and Tests in Print, along with reference books in the Special Education Section of the Lehman College Library are sources for extensive information about tests and test reviews–both of which are included in the the Lehman College databases. On the assignment due date, you will deliver an oral presentation that is not to exceed 10-minutes using a slideshow tool of your choice (e.g., PowerPoint, Prezi). A detailed review of the assignment guidelines will occur in advance of the deadline to ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the purpose of the assignment, the steps you will need to take to successfully complete it, and how the assignment will be graded. Unsure where to start? This model will help you click into gear.
Click HERE to submit your presentation & accompanying session materials (i.e., handouts, graphic organizers, etc.) on or before November 26.
This project relates to the primary purpose of assessment, which is effective educational planning for children with atypical academic, social emotional, and behavioral development. You will select members of your working group. Groups will be provided with a clinical evaluation. In-class workshop time has been scheduled for group members to work collaboratively to draft the IEP. For this assignment, your group will:
Step 1: Write an Individualized Education Plan using the NYSED IEP Form based on the information detailed in the group's assigned clinical report.
Step 2: Formulate specific recommendations for:
Click HERE to submit a copy of the co-developed draft IEP document on or before December 10.
Throughout the semester you will complete 10 Nearpod lessons exploring issues related to the theoretical bases of testing and techniques underlying psycho-educational evaluation of children with learning and behavior problems (3 points each). Your response to lesson activities is due each week on Sunday before midnight (EST). A quality response to lesson activities draws upon your personal, professional, and theoretical knowledge. Along with links to all lesson resources (e.g., embedded videos and articles), Nearpod join codes are added above underneath each session on a weekly basis at 4:00 PM on Tuesday.Â
