CONSEQUENCES FOR UNIFORM BREACHES

First Stage

  • 25 minute detention (lunchtime or after school)

  • Compass notification to parents

  • Students may be asked to remove the non-compliant item of clothing, which will be returned at the end of the school day

Second Stage

If a student has more than 3 instances of not waring full uniform throughout a term there will be

  • 45 minute detention after school

In the case of repeated breaches of the uniform code and failure to attend detentions, it will result in

  • Interview of student with parents/carers to develop a plan to support the student to wear full uniform and to develop further graded sanctions for continued non-compliance with uniform rules.

Please note that a small number of excursions may be approved for an exemption from wearing uniform.

APPROPRIATE WEAR FOR CASUAL DRESS DAYS

There will be a limited number of approved casual dress days throughout the year. On these days a range of styles of clothing of individual choice may be worn, providing they are appropriate for school. Clothing that is akin to beachwear or suitable for wearing out in the evening is generally not appropriate for school.

Examples of inappropriate items include singlets of any type, low cut tops, strapless/thin strapped tops and thongs, sandals or other unsafe footwear.

EXEMPTIONS

Exemptions from complying with the uniform requirements will be granted if one or more aspects of the code

  1. Prevent compliance with a religious belief

  3. Have a detrimental effect on a health condition

An Application for Exemption from Uniform Requirements can be obtained from the General Office. This form must be completed and submitted to the Campus Principal, who has the capacity to grant an exemption or refer the matter to school council.

With the exception of black shoes, black belts, socks and tights, all other items must be purchased from the uniform shop managed by the uniform suppliers, Noone Imagewear. The school will make every attempt to organise assistance for the purchase of uniform for those students whose families are experiencing financial hardship. In this situation the parent/carer or student should contact the Student Wellbeing Coordinator at the school.

ACCEPTANCE OF ENROLMENT

Acceptance of enrolment at the Kinnear Campus assumes an agreement between the school, the parent/carer and the enrolling student that the dress code in this policy will be followed, unless there are religious, disability or health grounds for an exemption, in which case approval in writing must be provided by the Campus Principal.
