Adding and Subtracting Fractions

proper fraction - a fraction with a numerator which is smaller than the denominator. Example: ⅔

improper fraction - a fraction with a numerator which is at least as large as the denominator. Example: ⁵/₂

mixed numeral - a whole number and a proper fraction added together. Example: 1 + ⅔ or 1 ⅔

related fractions - Fractions that have related denominators e.g. ⅓ and ⅚
