What can be done?

Action

In order to create continuous change we must start with the youth. My action plan consists of compiling a list of opportunities for young black individuals to get a head start. I chose to do this because I believe that as a student who will be attending college next year, I want my younger peers to be well-prepared and ready to seek new heights.

Here are some organizations that help the youth

  • My Brother’s Keeper Alliance” is an organization that builds safe communities for young men of color to ensure that they have pathways for opportunities. It has mentorship programs and advocates for equality in education

  • “Girls for Gender Equity” - Brooklyn-based nonprofit focuses on the needs of cisgender, gender nonconforming, and transgender Black girls, as well as expanding education justice. Both of these organizations work to educate young Black youth.

  • 'Pretty Brown Girl" - youth must learn a sense of confidence and self acceptance. this organization focuses on Black girls’ social, emotional, and intellectual well-being through after school programs, clubs, and events

  • “100 black men of America” - This organization works to mentor Black youth and strives to aid in making future leaders.

  • “Black Girls Code”- a youth organization that works towards empowering Black girls and girls of color to acquire success in STEM fields. These fields include Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. This organization holds event, after school programs to teach skills like coding. This helps the youth increase their chances of landing jobs in STEM fields and digital spaces.

  • “Thurgood Marshall College Fund” - this Fund constitutes HBCUs as they provide students with leadership opportunities, internships, and scholarships to aid in the advancement of Black youth.
