My Action Plan

As someone who is heavily influenced by the arts, I wanted my action plan to reflect my creativity and involve giving back to the Asian community. My idea was to create different pieces of jewelry made from wire to sell to the Fontbonne community. I have teamed up with another student, Ingrid Truong, to create different jewelry pieces. Some of the jewelry pieces we will sell are wired earrings and rings. To add, with every purchase made, customers will receive a mini photocard of an Asian actor/performer with the various movies they star in on the back. I believe that this is an interactive way of sharing a little bit about many different Asian actors and performers. So, if somebody asks someone where they bought the jewelry, they can share how it was part of widening the knowledge of Asian actors and performers in a social justice project.

We sold the products during lunches in the spring. We decided that the money we make will be donated to an organization that advocates for Asian awareness. The ones that Ingrid and I considered were CHUANG Stage, Asian Americans Advancing Justice, or Asian American Theatre Artists of Boston. However, we have decided to reach out to the organization called CAPE USA whose mission is to assist Asian Americans engage creative talent and executive leadership. They also help provide cultural content consulting and talent referrals.

From this, I will also learn more about the Asian community in Hollywood and Broadway. I hope that the jewelry will inspire students and faculty/staff to research more about Asian actors and performers. Not only does this project incorporate my creative interests, but it also will teach me about marketing, business, and keeping track of money.
