Indigenous peoples in Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Guatemala have faced significant injustices throughout history, specifically women. However, by shedding light on this injustice, society and the rest of the world can strive towards promoting awareness, advocating for their rights, and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. It is essential for the world to actively pursue justice and respect for the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples, rather than leaving them to face these challenges alone.
What have I done?
For my action plan, I decided to directly help an Indigenous woman named Quenia from Guatemala and her family by selling her handmade birds. I have raised over $1,000 worth of birds, which will be directly sent to Quenia to help her pay for her children's education.
