Catholic Social Teaching

Christians openly condemn human trafficking as it violates the morality and dignity of the human person. Thematically the teaching of “Life and Dignity of the Human Person'' speaks to this as “the Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society (USCCB).” Human Trafficking disrupts the dignity of the human person as well as violating their right to life.

Secondly, trafficking relates to the teaching of Rights and Responsibilities, as explained by USCCB, “ tradition teaches that human dignity can be protected and a healthy community can be achieved only if human rights are protected and responsibilities are met. Therefore, every person has a fundamental right to life and a right to those things required for human decency. Corresponding to these rights are duties and responsibilities--to one another, to our families, and to the larger society(USCCB).”

ExamPles in scriPture:

As stated in Psalm 82:4, we are called to “rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked (Psalm 82:4).'' THE Catholic Church does work to combat injustices, especially that of those who cannot defend themselves. The faith community calls for action and change for these underprivileged people. This is seen throughout the Bible as the church works to“ learn to do good;seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause(Isaiah 1:17: ).''
