Dear FOBISIA Colleagues,
FOBISIA DRAMA CONFERENCE
...and SCENE!
21-23 September 2023
On behalf of British School Manila, I would like to invite you to the FOBISIA Drama Conference, 21-23 September 2023.
THURSDAY 21 SEPTEMBER & FRIDAY 22 SEPTEMBER
During the 2-day workshop we will work with Dr Jennifer Hartley exploring a variety of techniques and approaches that can be used in the classroom. We will work between game theory and explorative exercises that build into creative devised pieces quickly and effectively. We will look at the importance of our own stories as a foundation for building empathy and resilience and practical exercises which promote inclusion and a sense of belonging – a key approach following the separation and ‘de-socialisation’ brought about by the pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns. This workshop is designed to assist in the nurturing of students' creative potential and their individual artistic identity.
We will look at how theory and practice can be combined in exploring how theatre can change lives, exploring how to use the arts to explore a range of social topics and engage with the community.
SATURDAY 23 SEPTEMBER
This day will be dedicated to the FOBISIA Drama Annual General Meeting, launching both face to face and virtual teacher events, student events, the upcoming festivals for 2023-24 and planning ahead for Committee Roles, Conference Hosts and Festival Hosts in 2024-25.
The conference will end at 12.30pm.

British School Manila
Established in 1976, The British School Manila is the oldest and only non-profit international school in Manila offering a British education for students from Nursery (age 3) up to Year 13 (age 18). Each year we welcome more than 900 students, of more than 40 nationalities.
Comprising the Primary School and the Senior School, our campus is open, airy and family-friendly, encouraging students to interact with other year groups, supporting close engagement with our UK and Commonwealth trained teaching staff, and nurturing home and school partnerships.
The British School Manila’s new Creative Arts Centre is a purposefully built facility which will be a hub of creativity. It has been designed to become a new gateway to our campus. Large multipurpose areas, and display spaces are central to the design.
As with all our developments, ensuring the design provides maximum flexibility has always been a priority. This has been achieved through retractable and moveable seating, flexible stages and moveable walls.
The new auditorium together with the open-air amphitheatre ensures students have plenty of opportunities to rehearse and perform but also devise new work. In entrusting the architecture to Lor Calma and Partners, with Architect Ed Calma leading the team, we are certain that the design of the new Creative Arts Centre reflects the creative spirit that we want to foster among our students.
