In FNESU, our vision of an effective math classroom is as follows:
Students discuss and collaborate authentically to share and listen critically in order to deepen their understanding of mathematics.
Students have opportunities to persevere through challenges.
Students access and know how to use multiple and varied tools, models, and resources available to them.
Flexible thinking and the use of multiple strategies is honored.
Students make connections between various representations, strategies and key mathematical concepts.
There is spaced practice for students to develop fluency and flexibility with mathematical skills.
Students self-assess and set goals.
Time is provided for targeted instruction and intervention based on on-going formative assessment, including student self-assessment.
There is intentional, universal instruction based on effective instructional practice and strong content knowledge.
