Throughout the year, the school counseling team will implement whole-campus events. These events are intended to address one topic for all students. Up-to-date information on whole-campus events can be found here.
The school counseling program delivers tier 1 developmentally appropriate social-emotional skills to all students throughout the school year. A sample of the school counseling lesson plan can be found below. Please note, based on grade level needs, the topics may shift throughout the year or change. Topics highlighted in blue are required by the South Carolina Department of Education to be delivered by the school counseling program.
Other supports are delivered to students needing a more tailored delivery by way of small group or short-term, solution focused individual counseling. Small groups will occur outside of core instructional time and sometimes during the student's lunch through a "lunch bunch" activity.
If a student threatens to harm themselves or someone else, the school counselor plays a vital role in the implementation of the crisis intervention model. For more information about this model, visit the FMSD student health services here.
