WRITING TIPS
Need to write a paragraph that gets you full credit? Here's how to do it. Follow the guidelines and you will be fine. Every paragraph needs THREE facts. These facts need to come from text. You do NOT have to copy them word for word. Every fact needs to be explained. See the list and example below.
Include all these:
· Introduction sentence
· Fact 1 in your own words
· Fact 1 is explained
· Fact 2 in your own words
· Fact 2 is explained
· Fact 3 in your own words
· Fact 3 is explained
· Conclusion sentence
See how this looks in a paragraph. Each part below is color coded to match the list above.
Oreos are a tasty snack kids should have for lunch. Oreos contain 4% of the calcium you need in your diet each day. Calcium is important to help kids' bones grow and be strong. Oreos have 2% of the iron you need daily. Iron is what makes your blood red and carries oxygen to your cells. One serving of Oreos also has two grams of dietary fiber. Fiber is important in your body to help your digestive system work correctly. Therefore, you can see how important it is that kids have Oreos as a snack every day.

Did you know that brains learn and remember better with repetition? That's why you remember commercial jingles so well! You will reduce your stress and amount of time studying if you study in smaller time blocks more frequently. For example, 20 minutes a day for four days before the test is 80 minutes of study. And this will work better than 90 minutes the night before the test. Why? Repetition helps memory! Also, long study blocks are not efficient, as it is hard to stay focused the whole time and not get tired/bored/frustrated. We tell you when tests are well in advance so you can study smaller blocks more often. Use your study time effectively!

MAKING CORRECTIONS
Need to make corrections? Corrections are necessary before attempting a retest. Please also note a retest is not simply taking the same test again. How do you make corrections? Follow the template below:
On a piece of paper you are planning to turn in within THREE days of taking your assessment, you need to do the following:
Put your name on it, first and last, and class period in the TOP RIGHT
On the TOP BLUE LINE at the LEFT, write "CORRECTIONS FOR ______________________" and fill in the name of the assignment
Do the following for EACH question you got wrong:
Write the question you got wrong (all of it - except for pictures, maps, diagrams, or stories... just the question part)
Write the CORRECT answer (the answer, not a b c or d)
Write WHY the correct answer is actually right
When finished, put it in the turn in pocket. If you do not turn in corrections in a timely manner, they will not be accepted. When in doubt, ask. Also, note that copied and pasted responses will not be looked at. You actually need to write stuff!
