Wear shoes to PE! As I mentioned in Google Classroom and on 10/2 Eagle Express:
Starting in the 2nd quarter (10/13/26), if you do not wear proper shoes to PE your grade could be affected.
If you do not wear proper shoes to class FOUR (4) times PER QUARTER, your grade will be lowered. A proper shoe covers your entire foot and is able to be secured with shoelace or velcro. The only exception is if Coach G has approved you to wear a special type of shoe during class. This is for your safety.
If you have any questions I would be more than happy to answer them. Wear shoes to PE class!
- Coach G
Parents: If you have any shoes your child has outgrown, the OPES PE department would love to have them. As long as the shoe is in good sport condition we would love to accept them as a donation. This way, if a student forgets their shoes, they would be able to borrow the donated shoes (as long as they have socks) to wear for class that day. Thank you for your generosity and helping keep students safe in PE!
We did so much activity in our first quarter! 3rd through 5th grade completed FitnessGram testing. All students did a PACER, Pushup and Curlup test. For some of our third graders, this was their first time doing pushups, very proud of them!
Our K-2nd students started out with teamwork games like the Parachute and The Floor is Lava Team Challenge. We also explored different locomotor movements like skipping, galloping, sliding, and hopping. These movements build the foundation for more complex movements when we get into sports in upper elementary PE.
We also completed our first sport! K-5th students bowled for a few class periods. K-2nd worked on their math and bowling skills with Addition and Subtraction Bowling. 3rd-5th worked on the proper mechanic sequence of the bowl and got to use PE bowling balls rather than the dodgeballs to bowl. As I told the 5th graders, this was their last time bowling in PE class, as bowling is not part ofthe middle school or high school PE standards.
We crowned our first ever Athlete's of the Month in August and September. To qualify for Athlete of the Month, you need to have made ZERO trips to the penalty zone, and give your best effort in PE class. The winner of Athlete of the Month in each class gets to pick the activity we do for the rest of the class period that day, and they also get two Eagle Tickets for their efforts that month.

Follow OPES Physical Education on Instagram! Every Friday the Weekly Recap is posted where you get to see what is going on in the gym. This is a great way to get involved in your child's education! I always tell the students that if you are only being physically active in PE class, you are not getting the benefits of physical activity. Feel free to use what we are doing in class that week and do some of those activites with your child at home after school or on the weekends!
