4th Grade: Abstract vs. Realism
5th Grade: Design Principles
My name is Amber Metcalf and I am so excited to be the art teacher here at Orchard park this year! This is going to be an exciting year for the students as each grade level studies through a theme in art. I always have an example board up in the room so they can see what they will be doing next and also get excited about projects to come when they get older. All of the students will be keeping their artwork in a portfolio throughout the year and will be able to choose their favorite piece to mount for a school wide art show at the end of the year. I hope your student enjoys art class this year as much as I will enjoy teaching them!

We are currently working on the first few projects of the year.
Kindergarten: Explored painting with marbles to create a scribble-like image. They got to choose which colors they wanted to scribble with.
1st Grade: Finished an oil pastel inspired by Kandinsky and are now working on an oil pastel of a fox.
2nd Grade: Finished a painting project of paint exploding from pipes. They are now working on a landscape where they have to mix their own paint colors.
3rd Grade: Learned about cave art and we crawled under the tables and only used our hands to simulate painting in a cave. Now they are learning about the meditative art of zentangle.
4th Grade: Learned about folk art and they are mastering the technique of shading with a colored pencil in order to create a unique cityscape.
5th Grade: Learned about book illustration and are working on creating their own yearbook cover. The top artists will be featured on this years yearbook!
