in each grade:

1st Grade: Art Elements
2nd Grade: Color Theory
3rd Grade: Ancient Art History
4th Grade: Abstract vs. Realism
5th Grade: Design Principles
My name is Amber Metcalf and I am so excited to be the new art teacher here at Orchard park this year! I have been teaching elementary art for 4 years. I recently worked in Rock Hill schools but I am glad to be at my home school now. I live in Baxter with my husband, 2 teenage children and 2 dogs! I love taking walks through the trails, riding the golf cart to market street for lunch and hanging out at the mushroom pool with my family. This is going to be an exciting year for the students as each grade level studies through a theme in art. I always have an example board up in the room so they can see what they will be doing next and also get excited about projects to come when they get older. All of the students will be keeping their artwork in a portfolio throughout the year and will be able to choose their favorite piece to mount for a school wide art show at the end of the year. I hope your student enjoys art class this year as much as I will enjoy teaching them!

We are currently working to finish a few final projects before choosing the artwork we will display for the upcoming school wide art show!
Kindergarten: Explored painting with different tools to create painted paper and is then going to use the painted paper to create a collage.
1st Grade: Finishing a quick project focused on using line and color and then will move on to create a small sculpture of a unicorn.
2nd Grade: Finishing a color project using painted paper and then will create a printing project.
3rd Grade: Learning about Mary Blair and her work with Disney and creating a castle painting and print collage.
4th Grade: Using different techniques, they are creating a symmetrical beetle that will be colored using oil pastels. After they will finish their quilling bird project.
5th Grade: Finishing their paper sculpture project and then will create a black and white optical illusion.
