Colonel Woodward is originally from Conway, SC, and is a graduate of Coastal Carolina University.  He grew up an “Army Brat,” on military bases primarily throughout the southeast, with two younger brothers.   His dad was a career Army Warrant Officer, and a helicopter pilot.  Following Colonel Woodward’s commissioning as a Marine Officer in 1981, he reported to the Basic School at Quantico, VA, and was subsequently assigned the MOS (military occupational specialty) of Logistics Officer.  His military career spans 30 years, with tours of duty on the east and west coasts of the US, as well as overseas, to include: Lebanon, Norway, Iraq, and Africa.

Colonel Woodward has been a JROTC Instructor since December of 2019, with his first three and half years in the position of Senior Instructor with the Navy JROTC program, and since July 2023, in his current position as Senior Instructor in the Marine Corps JROTC program at Nation Ford High School.  His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service with Gold Star, and the Combat Action Ribbon.  Colonel Woodward is married to the former Paige Mathews of Conover, NC. Paige has a BA in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro. They have three adult children: Alex, and his wife, Katherine (military base, Virginia), Emily, and her husband, Matt (Kingsland, GA), and Elizabeth, and her husband, Jason (Irvine, CA). They are also blessed with 4 beautiful granddaughters: Hannah, Eleanor, Scarlett, and Leah.  In addition to a BS degree from Coastal, Colonel Woodward has earned an MBA from Campbell University.

Sergeant Major John Logan grew up in Warminster, PA. He attended recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, SC from March - June 1988. 

Reporting to Personnel Administration School, Camp Lejeune, NC, he graduated in September 1988.

Lance Corporal Logan next reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 451, MCAS Beaufort, SC in October 1988, where he served as a clerk and training NCO. 

He deployed to the Mediterranean Sea aboard USS Coral Sea in 1989, and later in support of Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1990-91, during which time, he was meritoriously promoted to corporal.

In July 1991, Corporal Logan reported to Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps for initial service in the Administration and Resource Management Division, and later the Office of the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps/Director Marine Corps Staff.  He graduated as the honor graduate of Sergeants Course at MCB Quantico, VA in September 1994.

He reported to Drill Instructor School, MCRD, Parris Island, SC in January 1995 before reporting for duty with Company A, 1st Recruit Training Battalion for service as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor.

Sergeant Logan returned to Headquarters Marine Corps in July 1997 for duty with the 13th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps.  During this tour, he was promoted to staff sergeant while attending the Career Course at MCB, Quantico, VA in March 1998, where he graduated as the honor graduate.

In July of 1999, Staff Sergeant Logan reported to 4th Marine Regiment, Camp Schwab, Okinawa, where he served as Personnel Chief before moving to Headquarters 3rd Marine Division, Camp Courtney, Okinawa where he served as Division Orders Chief from November  2000 through May 2002.

In May 2002, Staff Sergeant Logan reported to the Superintendent of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY.  He was promoted to gunnery sergeant in October 2002 while attending the Advanced Course, MCB Quantico, VA.

In June 2005, Gunnery Sergeant Logan returned to Personnel Administration School, Camp Lejeune for duty as an instructor.  He was selected for promotion to First Sergeant in Dec of that year.

In March 2006, First Sergeant Logan reported to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marines, Camp Lejeune, for duty as Golf Company First Sergeant.  In 2007, his battalion deployed with the 26th MEU aboard USS Bataan to the Persian Gulf in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

In January 2008, First Sergeant Logan reported to 2nd Marine Division G-7, Camp Lejeune, for duties with the Division Inspector.

First Sergeant Logan joined Charlie Company , 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines at Camp Habbaniyah, Iraq in September 2008, and completed the final six months of the battalion’s deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Returning to Parris Island in July  2009, First Sergeant Logan was assigned to Headquarters and Service Battalion. He was selected for promotion to his current rank while serving as the Company First Sergeant of Headquarters Company. 

Sergeant Major Logan then reported for duty as Sergeant Major of  3rd Recruit Training Battalion in Feb 2010, and later as the Sergeant Major of Recruit Training Regiment, East in Oct 2011.  Sergeant Major Logan retired from active duty in Oct 2012.

Sergeant Major Logan joined South Point High School NJROTC in Belmont, NC from Aug 2012 – Jun 2015 as the Naval Science Instructor, after which he assumed his current duties at Nation Ford High School MCJROTC.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal x2, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal x2, the Maritime Service Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal x2. He was selected by the Charlotte-Metrolina chapter of the Military Officers Association of America as JROTC Instructor of the Year for the 2016-17 school year.

In June 1988, while on post-boot camp leave, PFC Logan was blessed to marry the former April Martin of Southampton, PA.  Through God’s grace, John and April have four children and nine grandchildren.  Semper Fidelis.  Soli Deo Gloria!
