Supporting Young Breast Cancer Survivors (YBCS), Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) Patients, and their Families
The FMEC’s Supporting Young Breast Cancer Survivors (YBCS), Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) Patients, and their Families project, or YBCS project, is focused on improving support services and educational resources for young Black breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer patients and their families.
Key activities include collaborating with state health departments, health systems, nonprofit organizations, and Comprehensive Cancer Control coalitions to expand psychosocial support networks. The project also emphasizes culturally-tailored outreach through the establishment of an advisory board and steering committee to ensure strategies align with community needs. The initiative will train healthcare providers and community health workers on culturally-competent practices, and we will implement a quality improvement initiative across family medicine residency programs as well as other primary care clinics, beginning in the Maryland-Virginia-DC region and expanding to other regions as resources allow.
This residency learning network project will enroll family medicine programs and community-based clinics starting in the summer 2025 for education and QI initiatives that will kick-off in the fall of 2025 and extend through 2029. To join this project, contact Rebecca Bouck at rebecca.bouck@fmec.net.
The YBCS project is supported by the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors through funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Young Breast Cancer Survivors Program.
