Who We Are: Protecting West Virginia

The Fire Marshals Association of West Virginia, Inc. (FMAWV) is more than just an organization—we’re a movement committed to advancing fire and life safety across the Mountain State and supporting our members who enforce the laws of the state related to the prevention of fire and explosion. As a proud 501(c)(4) nonprofit and state chapter of the International Fire Marshals Association (a division of the National Fire Protection Association), our mission is rooted in prevention, protection, and progress.

Our strength lies in our diversity. With over 100 members spanning fire and building code officials, firefighters, law enforcement officers, architects, engineers, healthcare and education leaders, general contractors, fire protection specialists, and more, FMAWV brings a rich mix of voices to the table. This collaborative environment ensures that every angle is considered when shaping safer spaces for West Virginians.

Our Purpose: Educate. Advocate. Elevate.

Training is at the heart of what we do. In a field where laws and technologies are constantly evolving, staying ahead means staying educated. We offer ongoing opportunities for professional development to help our members lead with confidence and competence.

But we don’t stop at education—we engage. FMAWV is a hub for critical conversations around current fire and life safety issues. And when it’s time to act, we’re on the front lines, working with state leaders and policymakers to shape legislation that protects our communities. Our advocacy efforts make sure the voices of these professionals are heard loud and clear at the Capitol.
