Florida’s Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) Standards were adopted by the State Board of Education on February 12, 2020. For resources to better understand the standards to which the assessments are aligned, please visit CPALMS. In Spring 2023, a B.E.S.T. Writing field test was administered to a representative sample of Florida students. The first operational administration of B.E.S.T. Writing will occur in Spring 2024 for grades 9-10.

The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), which includes VPK through grade 10 Reading and VPK through grade 8 Mathematics assessments, will be administered as a progress monitoring assessment, which students will participate in three times per year: once in the fall (remote from home), again in the winter (remote from home), and lastly during the spring (in-person). Although fall and winter FAST administrations will be conducted in a remote session, Florida Virtual School students in grades 3-10 must return to their assigned test site (e.g., zoned school) for the spring administration.
