Florida Civics Literacy Exam

FCLE

The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) will be available twice a year to students enrolled in the following courses.

Is the FCLE mandatory for students enrolled in the courses listed above?

There is no penalty for not taking the FCLE assessment. Students attending a college or university in the state of Florida are required to demonstrate competency in civic literacy.  Students who take and pass the FCLE in high school are exempt from the postsecondary civic literacy assessment as required by s. 1007.25(4).

Does the FCLE affect my final grade in U.S. Government?

No, the exam grade is not factored into the final grade for any of the courses listed above. There is no penalty for not passing the exam.

When is the FCLE test offered?

FCLE testing will be offered twice each year. The 2023-2024 fall administration occurs between 11/6/23 - 12/15/23. The spring window occurs between 4/1/24 - 5/31/24. Exact test dates are set by the local test sites.

How do I sign up for testing?

Students enrolled in an applicable course during the first semester will test in the fall administration. Students enrolled in an applicable course in the second semester will test in the spring. A survey link will be sent by email to all applicable students a few weeks before each test administration window from the FLVS Full-Time testing department. Please complete the survey to notify your assessment team if you plan to test during the upcoming round or are declining to take the assessment. If you elect to test, the FLVS Assessment team will arrange your test schedule with the local test site and send you the testing dates and times as soon as possible.

Is the FCLE test administered remotely?

No, all FCLE testing is in-person at the student's local test site.

How long is the FCLE test?

The FCLE test is a one-day, 160-minute session test. Students will get a break after 80 minutes of testing and may be dismissed at that time if they are done testing. Students needing more time after 160 minutes may continue working up to half the length of a typical school day.  The test contains approximately 80 multiple choice questions
