How does Driver Education at FLVS help students earn a learner’s license?

If students are working towards obtaining a Florida Learner’s License, then the course has some additional benefits. By successfully completing the Driver Education course at Florida Virtual School students will:

• Be issued a receipt number for the required 4 hour Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) which is one of the requirements for a license.
• Have the opportunity to take the online version of the 50 question General Knowledge Exam required to earn their license. A link to the exam will be sent upon completion of the course. All completion related emails will go to the student's main FLVS message box in the student dashboard on flvs.net within around 48 hours of completion of the course.
• The online version of the permit test is only available to students between the ages of 15 and 17 years old. Students 18 and older will need to take the General Knowledge Exam at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The online option is free and you may attempt the test up to three times online (one retake per day). The first attempt on the General Knowledge Exam at the DMV is included in the standard license fee, check with your local DMV office for the pricing of retakes.
• This option is available to students who completed the course on or after 6/25/2015.
• If a student experiences technical difficulties with the online version of the General Knowledge Exam (permit test) please visit the DriverEd.com help site https://flvsdriversed.zendesk.com/hc/en-us once there click "Get Help" you can either click on any of the topics and scroll down and click on submit a request to fill out a help request or you can click on Contact Information to see the email to email them directly or to call their help line.
• Students should also review the Florida Driver Handbook prior to attempting to take either the online or traditional version of the General Knowledge test. While this FLVS Driver Education course reviews all national driving laws, there are some Florida specific driving laws that this course does not cover. What does a student's family need to do to assist in the Learner's License process?

• All requirements for obtaining a learner's license are available at https://www.flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/licensing-requirements-teens-graduated-driver-license-laws-driving-curfews/ and https://www.flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/.
• Families are responsible for reviewing this information before visiting a licensing office.
• Standard licensing fees at the Department of Motor Vehicles in order to obtain a Learner's License still apply.

What if a student already has a License?

Students with a Florida learner’s or operator’s license are still encouraged to take Driver Education at FLVS and will earn .5 of a high school credit upon course completion. Licensed students will still need to take the final exam to complete the course, but can skip the general knowledge test for licensing that will be offered via a message to the student's FLVS main message box upon completion of the course. Students can print a copy of the unofficial transcript from the student records section of www.FLVS.net once the course is complete to provide to insurance companies as proof of completion. Some insurance companies provide a discount for completing a Driver Education Course, others do not. Students and families will want to check with your insurance provider to obtain more information on possible discounts. If your insurance company requires a certificate of completion, let your instructor know and he or she will create one for you.
