Isolation

The patient should be confined in an isolated room and should have an exclusive bathroom. He/she should avoid sharing personal items and cutlery.

· Suspend unnecessary visits, such as family meetings.

· Explain the situation to the patient. Make sure they don´t not feel alone or distressed.

Take care of the caregiver

The caregiver should be the youngest person in the family group. It should keep the recommended distance from the patient at all, avoiding physical contact.

· The caregiver should always use its personal protection equipment (gloves and facemask).

· After being in contact with the patient, the caregiver should wash its hands with soap under the water for at least 30 seconds.

Disinfection of spaces & furniture

The bed, nightstand, bathroom and other items used by the patient should be disinfected twice a day using a chlorine solution.

· To make the cleaning solution dilutes 50 ml of Chlorine (5%) in 450 ml of water. Do not reuse of save the dilution.

· When disinfecting always use the personal protection equipment.

Washing the clothes and bedding of the patient

The clothes and bedding of the patient should be washed separately of the rest of the family, using common laundry detergent for 20 minutes if the water temperature is between 60 to 90°C (140- 194 °F).

· If washing in cold, before the wash add chlorine (0.5%) and let it sit for 30 minutes, then proceed as usual.

Feeding

The patient needs to maintain a good hydration and consume a nutritional balanced diet.

· The patient should only take the prescription indicated by the physician.

Others symptoms

The elderly can show abnormal Covid-19 symptoms such as decay, inappetence and decompensation of their chronic pathologies.

· The caregiver should be always alert to any change in the patient state and act under the physician recommendations.
