Beacon Testing and Enrichment: Students will take the Beacon test 3 times this year. Each time they take it, they will hopefully grow each time to meet 4th grade expectations by the end of the year. To help foster this growth, we do a lot of teaching beyond the standard in class and assign homework that will extend their current knowledge. We understand that this may sometimes be challenging, so we only ask that your child be open to try new things.
Beacon is a little different than MAP. Whereas MAP would push students to skills in different grade bands, Beacon pushes students to deeper understanding within their OWN 4th grade content. This is more aligned with GA Milestones and will better prepare our students for their future success.
Georgia Milestones:
Students will be taking the GA Milestones again this year in reading, writing, and math. This is a minimal competence test that measures if your child understands and can manipulate 4th grade content. The GA milestones only assess 4th grade standards.
