My vision began in 2014 when I lost my husband, a mother of six and home maker I knew I would need to find a income source. We had a funeral and 3 weddings that year and after things began to settle I was asked by one of my sons, "Mom, if there was anything that you could do, what would it be?" It took me a couple days of comtemplative thought, my reply to him was that I would like to grow lavender. We had lived 16 years in Clayton, WA on 10 acres but we had to move into town because of my husbands health. I was blessed with an acre in the Morgan Acres area where I was still able to garden and have chickens, so I had a bit of land to grow on. I started searching for information about how to grow lavender. That search somehow lead me to Floret Farms in Skagit Valley, WA , they were offering a six week online workshop about growing flowers for market. I didn't know such a thing was possible. I had only heard of lavender farms. It was a large financial investment for me but I decided to take that class about growing flowers as a business. There were markers in the class that allowed me to think, OK, I can do this, I can provide flowers for people, everyone loves flowers. FlowersSpeak Farm was a way to heal my heart and gave me something to do while still raising kids with the thought that it could be first, a way to meet people and speak love into their lives and second, a way to eventually financially support myself.
