Parents and Teachers are welcome to bring their early age preschoolers to our Storytime Sessions at the Lake City Public Library. Our events are scheduled on Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. in the Children Department. Under the guidance of skillful library associates, the storytimes sessions have be reconstructed to include fun and exciting stories, rhymes, songs, activities and crafts. Preschool Storytime helps children to acquire the six early literacy skills that are required before they can learn to read. Based on research, reading to children positively affects the areas of the brain that support reading skills.

It’s a fact that children who are read to more often have a better chance of developing learning, imagination and reading skills. Our storytime focus on early literacy skills and the cognitive development of children in various stages. Each storytime event consists of a wide range of excellent children’s literature, songs rhymes and fingerplays planned according to their specific developmental stage. When parents accompany their children to storytime, the staff encourage them to read to their children regularly to reinforce the early literacy skills that are learned during these types of programs. Whenever children attend our storytime, they are fascinated by the presenters which lends to their interest to participate in group activates. At the Lake City Public Library, our objectives for the storytime programs are to help children to:
