English as a Second Language (ESL)
I will expose the students to the English language through grammatical, academic, cultural, contextual, and conversational mediums. The students will be challenged to develop their English proficiency through reading, writing, listening, and speaking, at times, pairing with the content material taught in Social Studies/History, Science, and Language Arts classes. The students will be challenged to apply the lessons and acquired knowledge to demonstrate their developing proficiency as the year progresses.
AP Spanish Language and Culture
We will engage students in an exploration of culture in both contemporary and historical contexts. The course develops students’ awareness and appreciation of cultural products (e.g., tools, books, music , laws, conventions, institutions); practices (patterns of social interactions within a culture); and perspectives (values, attitudes, and assumptions).
Honors Spanish 3
Honors Spanish 3 will focus on students continuing to develop their Spanish language skills and cultural knowledge. Students continue to develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, with a focus on grammar. They may also learn to use the subjunctive mood in different settings. Students will use the three modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational. They may also practice making oral and written presentations. Students may read Spanish literature and respond to it orally or in writing. Students may discuss topics such as history, art, literature, food, and professions. They may also learn about famous Hispanics, environmental issues, and historical events that have influenced culture
Spanish 2
Students will continue building their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills as well as increasing their cultural awareness of Spanish-speaking countries through audio recordings, engaging images, interactive games, readings, and videos. Grammar covered in this course includes: indirect and direct object pronouns, demonstrative adjectives, possessive adjectives, passive voice, as well as the preterit (or preterite), imperfect and future tenses.
