MT Service Academy Days: Missoula American Legion,
Thursday, April 24th, 3-6 PM
MONTANA'S 2025 SERVICE ACADEMY DAYS - Representatives from all five service academies (Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, and Air Force), ROTC, and the Montana National Guard will be available to provide information about the application and nomination process .For more information please contact kristin_kuiken@daines.senate.gov
Attention, current sophomores (2024-2025), this is for you! I sent an email to you on April 23; please let me know if you are interested and if you would like me or another staff member to nominate you.
Each spring, 10,000 high school sophomores from across the country join one of HOBY’s 70 State Leadership Seminars to recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace, and community. Ambassadors will participate in activities, keynotes, and discussions focused on HOBY’s three phases of the Social Change Model of Leadership – personal leadership, group leadership, and societal leadership. Each year, every Montana High School is invited to nominate at least one student to attend the annual leadership seminar, but we also encourage community nominations!
I am reaching out because I am hoping to get Florence-Carlton HS representation at the Montana HOBY leadership seminar in June this year. I attended Montana HOBY as an ambassador in 2015 and am still here 10 years later because of the impact it has had on my life.
This opportunity is solely for sophomore students who will be going into their junior year in Fall 2025. If you have any students that you think could benefit from an outstanding leadership experience, please nominate them here: https://hoby.org/nominate-a-student/ [hoby.org]. If you could please share this with your sophomore students, if you have any, that would be incredibly helpful!
The 2025 seminar will take place on the MSUB Campus in Billings, MT from June 5 – 8, 2025 and the registration cost is $275 per student. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact me or take a look at our website: www.montanahoby.org

Linked HERE you will find our flyer and application outlining this year’s schedule and processes. Please share these with your student and faculty members.
Applications for interested students are due Monday, May 12th by 5:00pm either by email, mail, or drop off.

The future decisions of how our natural resources will be managed will be made by the youth of today.
For 38 years, the Montana Natural Resources Youth Camp has provided youth an opportunity to study in an outdoor classroom the scientific principles, economic realities, historical heritage, and social perspectives of today, to help these future leaders in their quest to gain a natural resources perspective that is informed and progressive.
We invite youth ages 14-18 and 13 (if graduated from eight grade) to spend one week in the rustic setting of Lubrecht Experimental Forest east of Missoula and learn about Montana's natural resources. The accommodations are comfortable, the food is great, and the instruction and friendships are the best.
Campers learn about forests, streams, soils, geology, range land, wildlife, and recreation, and spend a half-day rafting the Alberton Gorge of the Clark Fork River. In between the field sessions, taught largely by professionals that volunteer from a variety of natural resources based agencies and industries, specialty evening programs, guest speakers, hands-on learning-through-discovery, and campfires provide for a lasting summer camp experience.
Student teams also compete in a Land-Use-Game where they manage a 3,800 acre ranch for 20 years. As in real life teams must make hard choices between profits and conservation ethics, especially if they face poor commodity prices. Most students enjoy the competition and have the typical reaction of "Wow, I never knew that making a living by managing land was so hard."
Camp Application We accept ages 14-18 and 13 year olds if they have graduated the 8th grade.

Please find the attached flyer to promote the MDT Aeronautics poster contest and share to your teachers and students. This division of MDT is relatively unknown but is a very important piece of what they do.
Aviation careers go beyond pilots or aircraft technicians. They also encompass air traffic control, ground crew, EMT, and much more. This contest is just another way to spread the word and the prizes are great!
Did you know? Your students could save thousands on out-of-state college tuition through the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE), the largest regional tuition savings program in the nation.
Out-of-state tuition can be anywhere from two to three times more than the cost of in-state tuition. Students who live in the West are eligible to apply for the WUE rate at 170 participating colleges and universities across the region and could pay no more than 150% of in-state tuition. That means more options, more savings, and less student debt!
Learn how your students can take advantage of WUE
Watch this short video on how to apply for the WUE rate.
Explore the WUE Tuition Savings Finder online dashboard to see school profiles, eligible majors, and estimated WUE tuition rates and savings at participating schools across 15 states in the West.

Check out West Point’s Summer Leaders Experience (SLE).
At West Point we develop Leaders of Character, and we are looking for high-achieving young people who are in great standing with their school and community, and who want to challenge themselves. Please see the attached flyer to share with your students, educators, and parents!
What is SLE?
SLE is a one-week program for current Juniors (High School Class of 2025) to visit West Point in June.
Students in this program get to spend the week with our cadets, live in the barracks, and eat in the mess hall.
Learn about West Point’s world class academics by trying 4 of our 17 academic workshops.
Learn about military training and becoming a Leader of Character at West Point by completing two military days to include rappelling, Zodiac boats, combatives (like Jiu-Jitsu) training and more!
Challenge themselves physically by attempting the Candidate Fitness Assessment, conducting physical training, and sports.
Complete their admissions interview with a cadet.
Spend the week making friends with other students from all over the US who are applying to West Point.
All the students that I have spoken with have really enjoyed this program and they especially enjoy interacting with the cadets. Your students may sign up for this program now by using the QR code in the attached “2024 SLE FLYER” or directly at westpoint.edu. We will accept applications until April 15th. SLE is competitive and not all who apply are offered to attend.
