Being elected as a team captain is both an honor and a significant responsibility. It’s a role that reflects the trust and respect of your coaches and teammates, and one that should make you proud. However, with that honor comes high expectations.
As a captain, you are no longer just a member of the team. You are expected to lead both on and off the track, serve as a positive role model within our school and community, and act as a bridge between your teammates and coaches. Leadership is not always easy, it often requires difficult decisions, accountability, and a commitment to putting the team’s needs above your own.
Any returning Varsity Track & Field athlete who wishes to serve as a captain must complete the application below by December 30th. The application will ask you to reflect on your strengths, weaknesses, leadership style, and how you would continue to lead even if not selected as a captain. Returning captains must reapply as well (there are only a couple questions for you).
After reviewing all applications and consulting as a coaching staff, we will select captains based on several factors, including past conduct, attendance, and what the team needs for leadership this season. Captains are chosen for their character and leadership qualities, not for their event group or performance alone. Not all events will have a captain; the captains are for the whole team and not just their event.
If you would like to apply, please fill out this form.
