Throughout each school year, the Center for Post-Secondary & Career Discovery, host multiple events, that provide the opportunity for students to explore their career interests. These events allow for students to engage with our community members, FLB Alumni, CPSCD Faculty Chairs, and their peers, by asking them about their experiences and hearing first hand about different journeys.
During the month of November, the 8th grade students will spend 3rd period with a Bison Ambassador to start their transition to the High School. This is an opportunity for the upcoming Freshman Class to experience life in the high school before starting their 9th grade year. During their time in the building, they will shadow an FLB High School class, enjoy lunch in the cafeteria, tour the building and ask any questions they may have for our Bison Ambassadors, faculty and staff.
Over the space of six tutorial periods, the 9th grade class will participate in the Freshman Exploration Days, which introduce them to the six schools that comprise the Center for Post-Secondary & Career Discovery. They hear presentations from Bison Ambassadors representing each school, they outline the career pathways in each area and different careers associate with them, as well as FLB courses, activities, and student organizations that relate to those career pathways.
Each October our CPSCD Faculty Chairs invite community members to Fort LeBoeuf to sit on a panel and have an open dialogue with our sophomore students about their career. Sophomores chose which panels they attend based on the Freshman Exploration Day presentations and have the opportunity to meet with professionals in the career areas of their interest.
In April, we host an Annual Career & College Readiness Fair. This event is geared towards our Junior and Senior students. It is an opportunity for the students to meet with local college & universities, workforce representatives, and other community based resources.
Each school year, students have the opportunity to take advantage of participating in a Job Shadow. This provides them to ability to learn more about careers that they are interested in.
