AI-created pictures are getting so good, it's really hard to tell them from real photos. Experts say even though there's no guaranteed way to spot a fake, we can still try!
One expert, Matt Groh, says it's important to learn about media, and now, we need to learn about AI too. It's like adding a new chapter to what we already know about spotting fake stuff online.
Groh's team made a guide to help us figure out if a picture was made by AI. They found five clues, like puzzle pieces, that can help us solve the mystery of whether a picture is real or not.
1. Body Oddities: Look closely at fingers, eyes, and bodies. Are there too many fingers, or do they bend in weird ways? Do the eyes look strange? Are there extra arms or legs? Sometimes, AI messes up these details.
2. Too Perfect or Cartoonish: Do the pictures look too shiny, like plastic? Are they super dramatic, like a movie poster? Real life isn't always so perfect.
3. Things Don't Make Sense: Is the writing jumbled or mixed up? Do clothes look strange or not quite right? Are objects connected in a weird way, like a backpack strap melting into a shirt? AI can make mistakes with everyday things.
4. Physics Problems: Do the shadows and light look wrong? Are there reflections that shouldn't be there? AI sometimes forgets how real light and shadows work.
5. Too Weird to be True: Does the picture show something that's just too unbelievable? Like, a historical event that never happened, or something that's just plain impossible?
So, when you see a picture, ask yourself these questions. They can help you figure out if it's a real photo or something made by AI.
