How to Write Who, What, Where, Wednesday Clues
Choose a topic - Make it something most people grades 5-8 will know.
Can be a famous African American or a place or thing having to do with the Civil Rights Movement. Don't do anything too obscure.
For example instead of the "Tulsa Race Massacre" - How about "Tulsa" or "Oklahoma"? You can educate listeners about the Civil Rights connection within your clues.
Find at least 10 facts about the person, place, or thing
Rate the facts by difficulty using the most difficult / vague first
Re-write the facts as clues using “I am” or “I have”
The first clue should be the most general like “I am an entertainer” , or “I am a object” or “I am a state”….
Clues 8 & 9 should be the most specific and obvious.
Make your last (10th clue) “Who (or what or where) am I starting with the letter ____
Example:
Who Am I
I am a fashion icon, writer, inventor, and scientist (no one thinks of Ben Franklin as a fashion icon today, but he was in his day so it's an obscure clue)
I was born on January 17, 1706
I was a journalist who wrote columns on fashion, marriage, women’s rights, and religion (again, not the main thing he is known for)
Two of the names I used as pen names were Silence Do-good and Richard Sanders
I only had 2 full years of formal education but I later got honorary degrees from Harvard, Yale, Oxford and the University of St. Andrews
I founded the University of Pennsylvania (okay now we are getting into things he is known for)
Although I made discoveries regarding electricity and invented things like street lighting, swim fins, bifocal glasses, and a stove. I considered the glass armonica my best invention. Popular musicians at the time Mozart and Beethoven even composed for it. (electricity! - now people can guess Ben Franklin)
I represented the US in France during the American Revolution as well as being a delegate to the Constitutional Convention.
Although I was never president I am a founding father of the United States of America and helped draft the Declaration of Independence. (this is the MAIN thing he is known for save the best for last)
Who am I with the initials BF?
Ben Franklin
