MEET THE TEAM

Jaquan Starling

Jaquan Starling an interdisciplinary engineering major with a minor in computer science. He is passionate about giving back to his community and currently serves as the president of the Black Student Union. After graduating he will be at Mitre as a business process engineer.


Team Role:

Project Manager.

  • As project manager Jaquan is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the specific tasks associated with the project. It's his responsibility to make sure that all deliverables are completed on time.

Kimberly Ottenwalder

Kimberly Ottenwalder is an Interdisciplinary Engineering student here at FIU. Her career goals include pursuing a Master's degree in Engineering Management and becoming a quality engineer.


Team Role:

Feedback Manager

  • As feedback manager Kimberly is responsible for developing feedback plans, establishes priorities during team discussions, and takes action on input received from advisors, sponsors, and stakeholders.

Nikolas Duing

Nikolas Duing is a mechanical engineering student currently finishing his final year at Florida International University. His future career goal is to optimize energy generation methods for municipalities.


Team Role:

Lead Editor

  • As lead editor Nikolas is responsible for reviewing and providing feedback on any and all documentation submitted by the team.

Leonardo Macedo

Leonardo Macedo is an interdisciplinary engineering student at FIU. He holds an Associate of Arts in Industrial Engineering. He would like to have a broad mindset in things that will help changing our world.


Team Role:

External Communications Manager

  • As external communications manager Leonardo is responsible for handling team communication with any external people outside of the team.

Luis Gonzalez

Luis Gonzalez is a mechanical engineering student currently in his senior year at FIU. His career goals are to receive a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and then a graduate degree in manufacturing or mechanical design.


Team Role:

Time Management Lead

  • As time management lead Luis monitors the team's usage of time during meetings and helps to create team agendas.

TEAM GOALS

  • Create a high quality decision-making program to assist utility providers with the development of resilient energy generation methods.

  • Develop an interactive model to demonstrate how extreme weather conditions can impact the energy grid.

  • Showcase the optimal investment portfolio to integrate conventional and renewable energy solutions.

  • Maintain constant effective communication throughout the team which will enable us to produce the best product possible.

  • Cater to the specific needs of our community to mitigate the potential hazards associated with climate change while building a more stable future for Miami-Dade.

INDIVIDUAL GOALS

Jaquan

  • To help create a collaborative team environment.

  • To use feedback from stakeholders into the final project design process.

  • A final product that satisfies all course requirements with the minimum of a B.

Kimberly

  • Strengthening communication and flow of ideas with everyone involved.

  • Creating an environment where all members feel included.

  • Success looks like a smooth transfer of ideas where we receive a grade of an A.

Nikolas

  • Going beyond our project advisor's expectations.

  • Making sure the scope of the project is reasonable is important.

  • Being far enough ahead of deadlines to minimize stress.

  • Have the final deliverables from this project be impressive, at least enough to discuss on his resume.


Leonardo

  • An efficient communication, whether it happens through email, group meetings/chats, and so on;

  • Not hesitating to pursue help from advisors and teammates.

  • Taking proper responsibility of a task, and always talk to a group member and/or advisor if you feel unpleasant or have doubts.

  • Incrementing feedback/constructive criticism to your opinion, or using it to change it towards one that might be more effective.

Luis

  • Receiving contributions from each team member and recognizing that everyone is putting equal work into the overall outcome of the project and each of its milestones.

  • Creating good relationships with all of our team members.

  • To showcase the best possible idea/product and be able to present it in a way that’s understandable to all.

  • Finish with a strong grade of an A in order to show our project worked and we were able to come up with the best possible product.
