Origami Twists
A Square Twist Romance
Ink and digital
2024
This series of illustrations is an exploration of the square twist, a classic origami fold that has been studied by scientists, mathematicians, and origami artists. Using Kawasaki’s Theorem, Maekawa’s Theorem, and the Big-Little-Big Lemma, one can show that there are four unique models for the six possible mountain-valley assignments of a square twist. Each illustration in this series is designed in such a way that when folded according to one of these four models it reveals the shape of a heart.
