Self Portrait Photographers
Ideas to think about:
Symbolism, the gaze, the author, whether the self shown _is_ the self. I wonder why so many of the people on this list are women or queer and what that means. How do they represent themselves, why do they explore the self, what are the references to, to what degree are we seeing people wrest control of their representation away from others, or even just make themselves less invisible? Macho vs non-macho, Self-absorbtion vs. self-expression vs. liberation - can you exploit yourself? What do you expose yourself to, in the online/physical world of psychos?

Rules Part:
Thinking Part:
Create one self portrait to introduce yourself to the class. Consider the various strategies of self-portraiture we looked at in class. Think about who you are, and how you want to represent yourself. What do you know that nobody else knows? What do you want other people to know? How can you communicate something to another person in an image?
