DESE provides direct MTEL and licensure support to all emergency licensed educators.
MTEL Vouchers: As of this Fall, every teacher working on an emergency license will receive a voucher to take at least one MTEL.
MTEL Preparation: In addition to existing test prep materials and resources, educators can now access the first freely available test prep course in one of the highest need fields: the English as a Second Language (54) MTEL Test Preparation Course.
Licensure Preparation Support: In 2022, DESE distributed over $1 million to ten preparation providers and partner districts to support emergency licensed educators advance to a provisional or initial license. Find the list of EPP/District Partnerships with dedicated licensure supports for emergency licensed educators here.
Coming Soon: In 2024, DESE will launch regional licensure support centers throughout the Commonwealth to provide direct help to emergency licensed educators. Customized supports will range from free MTEL prep courses to personalized licensure coaching. Look for more information on these regional centers soon!
