FIS operates under the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. The school is recognized by the government of the state of Hesse as a ‘supplementary’ school (anerkannte allgemeinbildende Ergänzungsschule). FIS also operates a kindergarten, which is subject to the applicable guidelines of the Hessian State Youth Welfare Office (Landesjugendamt).
Records of suspected and disclosed abuse, and details of any actions taken by the school, are collated and stored securely in CPOMS, regardless of the conclusions reached. These records are confidential and can only be accessed by Counselors and Administrators. Records are passed between divisions as students progress through the school.
The school is required by law to report concerns about child welfare to the Jugendamt. If required and/or on request, records are submitted to the Jugendamt. When students of concern move schools locally or internationally, this is reported to the Jugendamt.
In accordance with GDPR, parents have a right to view their child’s school records. Information from child protection and safeguarding records can be withheld if disclosing the information is not in the best interests of the child and/or could:
Cause harm to the physical or mental health of the child or another person; or
Prejudice an ongoing criminal investigation; or
Identify or reveal information about another person.
Psychoeducational evaluations are stored separately in a confidential file separate to the cumulative school file, and can only be accessed by Counselors, Learning Support Teachers, and Administrators. These documents are the property of the parents and are not forwarded to future schools.
