Irrigation season begins in Mid-April and typically ends in Mid-October. Since our water is stored and pumped from our South Lake (Pond) we have some discretion on timing. Typically, our property management company will send out email notices when our irrigation water is turned on and off.
Irrigation water for our Craftsman Estates /Pristine Springs development is stored in the South Lake (Pond). The two 5-acre lakes were engineered as part of this development and all or our irrigation water for member/residents and common-area landscaping originates, and is pumped, from the South Lake.
Irrigation water retained in our lakes comes from our natural ground water aquifer, seasonal rain/snow falling directly into the lakes and runoff from our streets, and when necessary, from the Foothill Ditch Canal, east of Munger Ave.
When the South Lake hits a low water mark, canal water can be released into the North Lake through a designed underground plumbing system, which in turn flows from the North Lake into the South Lake. This canal water augmentation process is manual and performed by our HOA board members, or one of their delegates, by turning on and off a gate control valve at the canal location east of Munger. The HOA board makes the decision on when to open and close the canal gates for augmenting our water supply.
The Boise Water District, and all the local water irrigation districts, determine when to initiate and terminate the irrigation water system process for the Treasure Valley. It all starts with the snowpack and reservoir water levels. If the water levels are high, the irrigation water can be initiated on schedule. If it is low, it may be delayed.
Our local news stations will assist in communicating opening and closing our Treasure Valley irrigation water. At the appropriate time, irrigation water is released by opening large Boise area reservoirs and canal gates to enable the water to flow into the numerous canal systems throughout the Treasure Valley. Our irrigation source is the Foothill Ditch, via the Middleton Canal.
