Grad School Resources

Should I go to grad school?

The short answer is... Probably.

The employment ramifications should be incentive enough. Check out this graph from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Can someone like me get into grad school?

Yes.

When should I start thinking about grad school?

As early as possible, but it's never too late. Because some graduate programs require specific undergraduate coursework, it matters what classes you take now. The earlier you decide to go to grad school, the better.

How can I start preparing to go to grad school?

Talk to your TRIO SSS Career Coach. Talk to your Faculty Advisor. Think about what you want to study, and start searching on the internet for graduate programs in your field. Once you have a plan, make sure you take the classes you need to prepare for your plan.

How do I search for and choose a grad program?

That depends on your field (subject). You might start by asking your Faculty Advisor or your favorite professor where they went to grad school, or you might search for graduate programs on the internet. Make a list of priorities: reputation, location, cost, etc. When in doubt, ask your TRIO SSS Career Coach for help starting the process.

When do I need to apply for grad school?

Different programs have different application schedules, but most start in the fall of your senior year. You should know where you are applying and start preparing your application and thinking about entrance exams in the spring of your junior year.

What are all of these abbreviations and acronyms?

This page is under construction. Please email your TRIO SSS Career Coach if you have a term that you want to see added.

These are presentations given by Finlandia TRIO SSS Staff and others about graduate school opportunities.

Articulation Agreements

An articulation agreement is an agreement between Finlandia and a graduate school that facilitates—and sometimes speeds—your progress toward a graduate degree. It often means spending less time at Finlandia, then going straight to graduate school, and receiving both your bachelor degree from Finlandia and your graduate degree at the same time, after you complete both. Here are some options:

Doctor of Pharmacy | Pharm.D. | 3+4
Concordia University Wisconsin | Mequon, Wis.

Doctor of Physical Therapy | D.P.T. | 4+2
University of Findlay | Findlay, Ohio

Master of Social Work | MSW | 4+2
Northern Michigan University | Marquette
Early Assurance

Yes We Must Coalition

The Yes We Must Coalition is an organization of independent, not-for-profit colleges and universities that serve students from low-wealth backgrounds. The members strive to increase degree attainment among those students. Finlandia is a member of the Coalition.

Many members of the Yes We Must Coalition have graduate programs and will offer special benefits to graduates of other members of the Coalition. If you earn your undergraduate degree at Finlandia, you will have access to these benefits. Here is a list of those graduate programs, along with admissions requirements and deadlines, program delivery modes and dates, tuition rates, benefits for graduates of member institutions, and contact information.
