Events in the Covid-19 Era

When Covid-19 struck the Midwest in March 2020, all regional career events for the rest of the school year were canceled. When we came back in the fall, everything moved to virtual. Career and graduate school fairs were all held online. This will likely remain our reality into the 2021-22 school year, at least until the pandemic is fully under control.

This was a huge benefit for people in remote locations like Finlandia. We suddenly had access to events and information, because they moved online, that we would have had to travel for days to reach before. Many schools and employers use a platform called Handshake to facilitate recruiting, events, and student job seeking. Starting in fall 2021, Finlandia will join them and gain access to local, regional, and national opportunities alongside the students at Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan.

Career Services and TRIO SSS Calendar

This calendar shows two Google Calendars: one called TRIO Planning that shows all academic calendar events, all TRIO SSS events, and some other events that might be interesting to TRIO SSS participants; and one called Career Services that shows all interesting career events that come to your TRIO Career Coach's attention.

Career events are all designated with a code in [brackets]. The code tells you which majors may be interested in that event. Events that start with [ALL] are for students in all majors. Events that start with [BUS] are for Business majors. If you do not see any events for your major, contact your TRIO SSS Career Coach, and he will watch for events for your major to add to the calendar.
