Because each person is different, therapy will look different for each person. Generally you will schedule a session with your therapist via in-person or telehealth (whichever is right for you). You will explore the current events in your life, things that have been bothering you, and explore your personal history. Depending on your specific presenting issues and needs, therapy may be short-term or long-term (1+ years) to be able to achieve your desired level of personal growth and development. It is most common to schedule weekly or every other week sessions with your therapist that are generally 50-60 minutes.
The most important thing to remember when it comes to therapy is that you will get the best results if you are an active participant. Your therapist cannot go out and live your life for you, they help you to discover your path and ways to get to your destination. Therefore, it is up to you to take the skills and work done in each session and put them into practice in your daily life. For therapy to yield positive results individuals need to be ready to acknowledge and take responsibility for their difficulties, be open to new perspectives, and take steps towards positive change.

To determine if you have mental health coverage through your insurance carrier we will be happy to do our best to assist in checking your eligibility, but it is ultimately up to you to know your benefits.
Confidentiality is one of the most important parts of therapy. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with potentiallly highly sensitive subject matter that is usually not discussed elsewhere. During your first session we will go over our confidentiality agreement with you in detail. Sometimes, however, you may want your therapist to share information or give an update to someone in your family or on your healthcare team (your Physician, Attorney, etc.), but by law your therapist cannot release this information without obtaining your written permission. With the release of information, we will maintain care over your information and will only share what you want shared.
Confidentiality will be maintained except for the following situations (which must be reported by state and federal law):
Suspected abuse or neglect of children, elderly, dependent adults or the infirmed.
If the client expresses an intent to harm themselves or someone else.
If records are court-ordered by a judge.
We offer cash discounts to Louisiana residents that do not have insurance.
EAP stands for Employee Assistance Program. This is a service that is offered through many employers that provides a few sessions free of charge to the employee before they would need to utilize their regular health benefits. Ask your HR department if your company offers this service.
