National Honor Society is a national organization that promotes involvement within the community and recognizes students that demonstrate excellence in character, leadership, scholarship, and service. Locally we host Café Night, support various service needs in the community, and also plan to take field trips and organize a college if transportation availability allows.
Membership Requirements
Maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA (this includes the weighted grades from weighted classes)
Pay the $20 membership dues (due right before Induction; the bookkeeper will add them to your fees once you've met the other requirements and the officers have audited the records.)
Have all fines and fees paid with the bookkeeper
Members MUST complete 20 community service hours and submit them via a form available in Mr. Giddings' room (501). Sophomores need to complete at least 10 hours. The deadline will be announced, but it is typically right after we get back from winter break.
Attend the induction ceremony (typically about 4 or 5 weeks after the end of 1st semester.
Maintain the high standards of the 4 pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, character, and leadership.
Note: Membership in NHS needs to be renewed every year. Practically, circumstances and the interest of members sometimes change such that they do not desire to remain in the club or no longer qualify to remain in the club. Additionally, meeting Induction requirements on a yearly basis is required by the National Charter.
Junior National Honor Society at Columbia Junior High is a separate club that operates differently than NHS at Fife High School. Membership in JNHS does not carry over to NHS.
You are NOT automatically enrolled in NHS if you have good grades.
You join NHS if you wish to and qualify via fulfilling the requirements listed above. Officers are chosen for the following year from the current sophomore and junior classes via interviews conducted by the current (including outgoing) officers and the adviser.
