This isn't the first time we've looked at the psychoanalytic approach but it's been a while!
Using the video and/or article below, see if you can answer the following questions:
Who is considered the founding father of the psychodynamic / psychoanalytic approach?
During what period was the approach founded?
Where did Freud operate?
What was the ‘Wednesday club?’
"Sigmund Freud 's psychoanalytic theory of personality argues that human behavior is the result of the interactions among three component parts of the mind: the id, ego, and superego"
Read the article below to refresh your memory on the psychanalytic approach. In particular, make sure you read the sections on the ID, EGO and SUPEREGO.
"According to Freud psychoanalytic theory, the id is the primitive and instinctual part of the mind that contains sexual and aggressive drives and hidden memories, the super-ego operates as a moral conscience, and the ego is the realistic part that mediates between the desires of the id and the super-ego."
By accident or design, the archetypical characteristics of the ID, EGO and SUPEREGO are often reflected in films and literature.
Take 10 minutes to find as many examples of the ID, EGO and SUPEREGO characters in movies / books. You'll be asked to explain your reasoning so try to think about what makes the characters ID, EGO or SUPEREGO
Below you'll see a series of scenarios. For each of these scenarios, think about / note down how the ID and SUPEREGO would react and then note down how (if at all possible) the EGO could find a compromise.
