Dear Ranger Class of 2024 and Families:

Congratulations! You are about to experience one of the most memorable times in your life;

High School Graduation! We are excited for all of you, and we are looking forward to celebrating

with you in the weeks ahead.

Here is the detailed information about the graduation events, including dates and specific times,

so that you know what is coming up.

Senior Recognition Ceremony - Friday, May 3, 2024:

This event will highlight the accomplishments of the Class of 2024.

9:15 AM: Seniors report to CHS Old Gym wearing Gowns only (no cap)

Event Location: CHS Gymnasium

9:45 AM -  11:10 AM: Recognition Ceremony will be held in the CHS Gymnasium. Parents are

A senior luncheon for the students of the Class of 2024 will be served beginning at 11:15 am

following the Senior Recognition event. The luncheon is for students only.

A tradition of the senior students participating in a walk through Central Middle School (@12:00

noon), Central Woodlands (12:20 pm), and the senior’s respective elementary schools (12:45

pm) has been established and will take place after the luncheon. The walk gives the elementary

and middle school staff the opportunity to congratulate the seniors and for the seniors to thank

their former educators for their mentorship and encouragement through the years!

Commencement Ceremony 2024 – Calvin University:

Commencement will take place on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Calvin University (Van Noord

Arena) located at 3195 Knight Way SE, Grand Rapids, 49546 Commencement will begin at 7:00

senior families and guests will park. Parking is reserved for guests and families in Lots 1-5 and Lot 6

There is also a circular drive near the entrance of the arena where guests can be dropped off

and picked up. We do not encourage seniors to leave their vehicles parked overnight at Calvin

University but if needed they may leave them overnight in Lot 8 and pick them up as soon as

possible the next day. The all-night party buses will pick graduates up at Calvin and take them

to the venue and drop them off the next morning (May 14) at Central High School at

approximately 5:15 AM for families to pick them up.

Each family will receive up to 8 tickets for the Commencement Ceremony. Those tickets may be

picked up in the main office by the senior student or parent beginning Monday, April 29th. All

seating is general admission. If needed, additional tickets will be available to be picked up from

the main office beginning May 6th.

Senior Recognition and Commencement Attire:

Graduation ceremonies are provided for those who wish to participate. These are dignified

occasions and we are confident that all graduates will dress and act appropriately. Please

follow these dress guidelines:

Boys: Recommended: Dress pants (no jeans or shorts), collared shirt, tie is optional, dress shoes

(no athletic shoes, or flip-flops).

Girls: Recommended: Knee/calf length dress, or skirt/dress slacks and a blouse, dress shoes (no

athletic shoes or flip-flops) Purses should be left with parents or at home.

Gowns - Please steam or press gowns with a cool iron.

Caps - Caps should be worn flat on the head (bobby-pinned if necessary). No décor or

messaging is allowed on the cap.

Caps & Gowns:

These items were distributed at school to your senior on March 13, 2024. Seniors that did not

attend this meeting may pick up their cap and gown in the main office. Seniors must wear their

graduation gowns for Senior Recognition; and their caps and gowns for the Commencement

Ceremony.

Behavior Prior to Commencement:

As a privilege, seniors will be released several instructional days before other students. For this

reason, we do not condone a senior skip day and would appreciate parental support. Seniors’

last regularly scheduled school day is May 6, 2023, followed by two days of exams. We want to

remind our seniors of the importance of making good choices both in and out of school. It is

important to keep in mind that any senior who violates FHC/District policies (i.e. use, possession

or sale of drugs or alcohol at any event leading up to commencement), or engages in any type

of vandalism or prank at CHS, may affect their ability to participate in the graduation

ceremonies. Students on school grounds (other than during scheduled supervised activities) is

prohibited. It has been brought to our attention that some of our seniors are participating in a

“senior assassins” game. Please know that this game is not endorsed by the school, may not be

played on any FHPS property, and can be unintentionally dangerous to students participating.

Please have a conversation with your student if they are participating. It is important that families

and the school work together to supervise student activities leading up to graduation. It is our

hope that students do not do anything to jeopardize their opportunity to be a part of all of the

important and meaningful activities!

We are excited to celebrate this wonderful time with you and your family. High School

Graduation is such a special time, and we look forward to the many enjoyable and memorable

events ahead! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Steve Passinault John DeStefano Kristy Loughin-Vance Jonathan Goei
