2026-2027 Season
BIODIVERSITY is the overarching theme for the 2026-27 FIRST suite of youth robotics programs.
With the critical rainforest ecosystem as inspiration, teams worldwide are building the knowledge and skills to solve problems and protect the connections that sustain our shared home.
The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) game under First Canopy is BIOBUZZ.
Teams are the pollinators who must transfer the pollen and nectar game elements to flowers and hive to score points.
In 2-minute and 30-second matches, two-team alliances compete head-to-head (Red versus Blue) in the 12' square arena. Alliance teams coordinate their strategies, defense, and scoring. coordinate scoring. Points are scored by launching into balls representing pollen and nectar into alliance-specific hives in the center of the field and by placing elements in the four flowers at the edges.
In the first 30 seconds of the game, robots must navigate and launch scoring elements autonomously. Among the engineering and programming challenges are the intaking, handling, and launching of two differently-sized game elements.
