Keynote Speakers

Alexandros Kentikelenis is Associate Professor of Sociology and Political Economy at Bocconi University in Milan. His research focuses on two broad topics: the political economy of global governance, and global health and social protection. He has co-authored two books and published over 50 articles in leading social science journals, including the American Sociological Review, American Journal of Sociology, American Joumal of Political Science, World Development, and The Lancet. He is a recipient of the Henrik Enderlein Prize for Research Excellence in the Social Sciences, as well as multiple awards from professional associations for his writing.

Geoffrey Pleyers is the current President of the International Sociological Association. He is a FNRS Director of Research and Professor of Sociology at the University of Louvain, Belgium. He holds a doctorate in sociology from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris, 2006). He was a post-doctoral fellow at the London School of Economics and New York University and has been visiting scholars or invited professor at 24 universities in Europe, the Americas and India.

Semi-plenary speaker

Valerija Barada, Associate Professor, a Head of Department of Sociology at University of Zadar. She holds PhD in Sociology from the University of Zagreb. She was lead researcher on, funded by European Social Fund. Currently she is working on project "Balance of private and work life", led by NGO B.a.B.e – be active, be emancipated. It is a follow up from the project "Impact of public policies on family and work life quality and demographic processes in Croatia - possibilities of change", where she was a lead researcher. Although she is primarily a qualitative researcher, she deploys mixed methods approach in her work. Her research interests include issues of labour and gender, gender roles and social differences in gendered and sexually mediated power relations; but she has also interested in developing locally situated theoretical concepts for interpretation of current social phenomena.
