12th Grade Checklist
Here are a few things for you to think about as you navigate through your Senior year at KSS. Take a look and consider these things as you move forward in your future planning. Also, please remember to check your school email accounts as frequently as possible so you do not miss important information from the Counseling Office.

Senior Year Checklist
September
Explore and begin to narrow your post high school options and which colleges you are interested in.
Retake the ACT to try for a higher score.
You can also tour the colleges that you are most interested in.
Start working on college applications.
Determine if your high school courses meet college/career/NCAA requirements.
Review your Direct Admission Letter and start comparing colleges on the list and applying.
October (College Knowledge Month)
Visit campuses during Teachers’ State Conference (MEA)
Start scheduling your mandatory Senior Check-In meeting with your School Counselor to review your progress towards graduation. We would like to have all of these completed before Christmas vacation.
Attend the Career Expo on October 26, 2023 at KSS.
Many MN colleges offer FREE applications the last week of October
Attend a workshop offered by the KSS Counseling Department if you need help filling out college or scholarship applications.
November
Finalize college choices and finish submitting college applications.
December
Start looking at information about Financial Aid (FAFSA) on our Counseling Website.
Talk with your parents about the information needed to complete the financial aid application (FAFSA). You may not begin completing the FAFSA until January 1, 2024.
If you haven’t taken the ACT as a Junior, you will need to take the ACT in April or sign up to take the ASVAB
January
Complete the FAFSA form online www.fafsa.ed.gov. You can start filling this out on January 1st.
The Dollars for Scholars application will be available (Due in March)
Start reviewing ALL local scholarships- which will be updated on our Counseling Website
February
Check deadlines for financial aid applications and housing applications at all colleges you are considering.
If you have not submitted your financial aid application, do so. Some financial aid is given on a first come, first serve basis.
March
Review your financial Student Aid Report (SAR) for accuracy.

April
Review college acceptance notices. Complete necessary forms. Finalize your choices.
Review scholarship, acceptance notices and rejection information. Complete necessary forms.
Apply for summer jobs - opportunities are posted on the bulletin board outside of the Counseling Office – many financial awards assume student contribution.
Keep up academic work. Colleges will review your final grades.
