Speech fluency refers to how smoothly someone speaks. You may notice that your child has trouble speaking smoothly and fluently. For example, he/she may repeat sounds (ex: d-d-dog) and/or words (ex: dog dog dog), or he/she may get "stuck" (i.e., long pause) when trying to speak. If these occur very frequently and impact a child's ability to express him/herself, this may be a "stuttering disorder". Some children who stutter may also develop negative feelings towards speaking and get frustrated. These challenges with speaking are equally important to address in therapy and in a comfortable environment.
