7th April 2025 - Our first day in Romania has been very exciting. We've arrived at the school, and we've had a warm welcome from students, teachers, and the school principal. We've engaged in a fun treasure hunt game to know about the school and to walk around it.
After the game, we've had a snack, and after that, we've shared a lesson with Romanian students about the biology and mechanics of movement: "Muscles, Endurance, and Coordination in Traditional Sports and Dances". It has been very interesting as the session has focused on the movements used in traditional sports and dances from Romania and Catalonia (la Sardana).
In the afternoon, we've started one of the main activities for this week: The Romanian legend "The Journey of Harap Alb" which highlights how important it is to recognize and appreciate the strengths of those who are often overlooked or seen as different. We have learned our lines and how to perform our assigned characters. We'll have time later in the week to rehearse some more before the performance on this coming Friday.
8th of April 2025 - Today we've learned a lot about the city that is hosting us. In the morning, we've visited the Parliament. It is an impressive building with more than 1,000 rooms and countless halls, walkways, monumental staircases and no fewer than 40 lifts. The total surface area is 340,000 square metres.
After this visit, our hosts, the Romanian students, have taken us on a tour through Bucharest's most important landmarks. In each one, they have told us significant details, and we have learned a lot about the city and the country. We have seen the University's Square, The National Bank, The Church of the "Stavropoleos" Monastery, The Athenaeum , The Savings Bank Palace, the Royal Palace and many more. Halfway through the tour, we got hungry, and we've stopped to have lunch. The day was lovely, and we've been able to eat outside. Overall, a lovely day in Bucharest.
9th April 2025 - Today we've travelled north of Bucharest by bus to visit three Castles in Sinaia. Cantacuzino Castel is a beautiful place. We've loved it because the TV series "Wednesday" from the Adams Family saga was filmed there. It's snowed while we've visited the castle, which has made it the more magical. The surroundings of the castle are beautiful, because the views of the Carpathian Mountains are impressive.
We've then travelled to Peles and Pelisor Castles. Peles was the summer residence of king Charles I of Romania, who chose the magnificent scenery of the Carpathians to spend the summers. Pelisor Castle is part of the grounds in Peles. It was built by order of King Carol I, as the residence for his nephew and heir, the future King Ferdinand.
The day has been amazing, the architecture of the castles is beautiful, the Carpathian landscape truly spectacular, and it has snowed in different moments during our visits. On top of this, we've had a lovely meal in Sinaia with our host Romanian friends. After eating, we've returned to Bucharest.
10th of April 2025 . We've been really active today. We've started the day with different games to get us moving. Sport truly creates a space where people can succeed together. Today we've experienced how sport can be a powerful tool for inclusion because it brings people together across different cultures, and abilities. We've had a great time.
After lunch, we've travelled by local bus to the National Village Museum. The museum showcases traditional Romanian village life. It contains 123 authentic peasant buildings from around Romania. We've learned a lot about Romanian culture and the differences between its regions.
Coming out from the Village Museum, we've decided to visit the Arch of Triumph which located nearby. We've been to the top, and we've enjoyed impressive views of the city.
11th of April 2025 - Our final day here in Bucharest has been very intense. An important part of this mobility's activities has been the legend of Harap Alb. This Romanian legend is significant for understanding inclusion because it tells the story of a prince who learns humility, empathy, and respect through his journey with a group of outcasts and unconventional companions. It’s a powerful metaphor for inclusion: everyone has something valuable to contribute, no matter how different they may seem.
We've started by rehearsing again our lines in preparation for the performance. Later, it was time to show some students and teachers at the Romanian School, our version of the Legend. We've done a great job. And we had a great time performing our roles, as we all had more than one role in the story.
After the show, it was time for lunch. Some of our host mothers came with Romanian traditional food. Everything was delicious: Sarmale, Cozonac, chicken and other tasty dishes.
We've had a lovely lunch with our Romanian friends. After eating, it has been time for the last activity in the Programme. A Treasure hunt in the park which consisted mostly of a photo challenge in the form of riddles that has taken us to many parts of the park, where we've had to take a picture with our team. We had a great time!
