Dual Enrollment
A Dual Enrollment (DE) course is a college course taken in high school during the high school day that will earn a student credit towards high school graduation and college units. The courses are offered during the regular school day. Typically, this model has district high school teachers, who meet minimum qualifications, teaching for the community college as instructors on the high school campus. However, there are some courses that are being taught by Los Rios instructors on our campus.
Sign up when you select your courses for the next school year (Feb-March).
"College Class" will be listed as one of your classes when you get your schedule.
You will be scheduled for Dual Enrollment as part of your school day.
You will be supervised and monitored by your high school teacher, your college instructor will assign work, give tests and assign your grade.
You will be expected to go through the enrollment process with Folsom Lake College that will result in a college student ID and a CANVAS account.
You will work independently and asynchronously on the curriculum. You need to be a motivated, self starter. The grade you earn will be permanent and will appear on your high school and college transcript.
Steps for enrollment: Dual Enrollment
Select course during high school course selection in Feb-March
Complete college Special Admit Form (online only)
Wait to be enrolled into college course until school starts. (do not self enroll into a section)
Concurrent Enrollment
In addition to courses taught on FCUSD campuses, as of the 2025-2026 school year, students have the option to independently enroll in specific college courses through the Los Rios Community College. We call these courses Concurrent Enrollment (CE). Although students are permitted to self enroll into any college course that they qualify for, only the specific courses on our approved list will allow students to earn both high school credits and college units.
Sign up for a concurrent enrollment following college timelines.
Concurrent Enrollment classes will not show in PowerSchool and will only appear on your transcript once a college transcript is submitted for a pre approved course. Students must still take a minimum of three classes per term.
You will self enroll in the college course on your own following Los Rios Dual enrollment guidelines including the electronic Special Admit Form.
You do not have supervision by any FCUSD employee in a concurrent enrollment course.
FCUSD students can use a MAXIMUM of 40 credits taken outside of FCUSD for graduation credit. Must already be a high school student.
IMPORTANT: Transcripts for completed coursework used for graduation MUST be submitted prior to the start of senior year.
Steps for enrollment: Concurrent Enrollment
Select course you would like to take. If you are requesting high school credit, choose a course that is listed on the PRE APPROVED LIST ONLY
If you are requesting high school credit, submit a COLLEGE COURSE SUBSTITUTION CONTRACT to your counselor before course enrollment.
Follow Los Rios enrollment process including the electronic Special Admit Form and self enroll into the Los Rios Course.
Once the course is complete, submit college transcript to high school registrar.
