Joana Portugal Pereira is an Assistant Professor in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ/COPPE) at the department of Energy Planning. She is a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Environmental Policy of Imperial College London and a Lead Author of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). Previously, Joana was a Senior Scientist at the IPCC Working Group III on Mitigation of Climate Change and joined the scientific team of the IPCC Special Reports on Global Warming of 1.5°C and Climate and Land Use.

She has a vast experience in developing environmental modelling tools to better understand the economic and environmental co-benefits of low carbon energy portfolios and to deliver policy recommendations.

She has developed work on energy and climate policy for the United Nations Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS, Japan), the Asian Development Bank (ADB, Japan), the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), the EC Horizon 2020, UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

Gonçalo Byrne is a Portuguese architect responsible for a vast accomplishment of architectural work.

Byrne was awarded the Grande Médaille d’or by the Architecture Academy of France for his life´s work, among which stand out, in Portugal, the Thalia Theatre and the APL Tower in Lisbon, the National Museum Machado de Castro in Coimbra, and, in Belgium, the provincial government building in Leuven.

The Portuguese Section of the International Art Critics Association awarded Byrne with their annual award; furthermore, the architecture faculty of the Technical University of Lisbon and the University of Alghero conferred on him the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa, and he has been a guest lecturer at the universities of, among others, Harvard, Leuven, Venice, Coimbra, Lisbon, Lausanne, Pamplona and Mendrisio.

Isabel Ferreira is an Associated Professor of Faculty of Sciences and Technology, NOVA University and Full Member of CENIMAT, responsible for Energy Materials Lab. She is responsible for the R&D activity in the area of materials for energy conversion. Her main scientific interests are in semiconductor materials (processing and characterization), energy conversion, microelectronics and optoelectronics, thermoeletric thin films, oxide semiconductors, biobateries, and graphene.

She is the recipient of various grants which include an Horizon2020 grant to develop novel large area distributed sensor network integrating transparent thin film thermoelectric devices and sensors for multifunctional smart windows (H2020-ICT-2014-19) and one ERC consolidator grant for integration of capacitor, thermoelectric and PhotoVoltaic thin films for efficient energy in a single substrate (ERC-2014-StG-647596).

Marco Perino is a Professor at the Politecnico di Torino, where he has been taught thermal and HVAC systems, building physics, applied thermodynamics and heat transfer for more than 20 years.

He has been responsible for more than 30 research/consultancy contracts of the Department of Energy at the Politecnico di Torino and research projects financed by the Italian Ministry of Education, Regional Authorities and the European Commission.

He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the following conferences: AIVC - Air Infiltration and Ventilation Conference, RoomVent, IAQVEC, Indoor Air, IBPC - International Building Physics Conference, BEPH - The Fifth International Workshop on Energy and Environment of Residential Buildings, Clima 2013 and Building Simulation.

His research activity is summarized in more than 160 scientific papers published in national and international conference proceedings, as well as national and international journals and books.

Xavier Ferrés Padró

Architect linked throughout his professional career, for more than 30 years, to the world of light facades. He founded the first facade consultancy in Spain in 1997.

Expert recognized in the sector, controlling all its angles: factory production, work processes, development of construction systems. He has participated in the construction of more than 180 buildings with the most prominent architects.

With more than 35 years of teaching at several universities, he currently teaches at the School of Architecture of Navarra and the Master of Architecture of Light Facades of which he is also a member of the academic commission. He has published and illustrated numerous articles and publications related to construction technology. He loves to work for the ideas of others and share it through teaching.

Artur Mexia

Applied Technology Director at Hydro Building System South Europe

As Technical and Projects Director for Hydro Building Systems Portugal he got a solid experience in product development of aluminium building systems and projects customized solutions for architectural applications. He is invited speaker of the Postgraduate course on Facade Engineering at FCT NOVA and participates actively in many initiatives for dissemination of the role played by the building and construction industry in Research, Development and Technological Innovation.

Daniel Arztmann

Professor for Facade Construction at TH-OWL - Head of Building Physics International Projects at Schüco Int. KG

After studying architecture and specializing as a facade engineer, he deepened his expertise as a consultant for high-rise facades and the development of façade systems for emerging countries for the market leader in architectural curtain walling. He is the director of the MID – Façade Design, a master course at the Detmold School for Architecture and Interior Architecture.

Olivier Gareil

Director - Europe & Middle East, SageGlass

A physicist by training, he has been in the glass industry for 10 years, in France, Malaysia and Switzerland.

He is leading the smart glass business of Saint-Gobain in Europe & the Middle East.
